  • Built-in WiFi access point and network connectivity allow monitoring and configuration from anywhere.
  • Advanced system integration: supports third-party lithium batteries, marine MFD/NMEA2000 interfaces, and automated generator start/stop logic.
  • Expandable sensor and control inputs: resistive-tank senders, temperature sensors, digital inputs, relays for external switching.
  • Future-proof design with remote firmware updates, micro-SD card support, and DIN-rail or panel mounting options.

The Victron Ekrano GX is a high-end system communication centre designed to serve as the “brain” of an energy-system installation. It belongs to Victron’s GX family of devices, and offers an integrated 7-inch touchscreen display, multiple connectivity options, and full remote monitoring/control capability.

It replaces the previous Colour Control GX model, representing the “next generation” in the GX line.

This is not an inverter per se, but rather a communication / monitoring / control hub for inverters, battery systems, solar chargers, and other devices. Category: Inverters / System Control. Target market: Tanzania (and broadly East Africa) — where off-grid, hybrid, and solar-plus-battery systems are growing.

Features & Benefits

  • Full system overview on a single display : The built‐in 7″ touchscreen gives immediate access to system data: battery state of charge, solar/hybrid input, AC load, generator status, tank levels and more.
  • Robust build for demanding environments : Aluminium casing, waterproof front (IP54), flush or blind‐hole mounting options. Great for harsh installations such as remote solar sites or industrial setups.
  • Advanced connectivity & integration : Supports a wide range of Victron devices (inverters, chargers, battery monitors) and third‐party systems, via VE.Bus, VE.Can, VE.Direct. Enables integration with NMEA 2000, MFDs (multi‐functional displays) for marine/industrial use.
  • Remote monitoring & control : Via the VRM portal and VictronConnect app, you can monitor and adjust your system from anywhere. Great for remote sites.
  • Automation capable : With Venus OS and options like Node-RED (low-code automation flow), the device supports advanced automations (e.g., generator auto start/stop, peak shaving, battery management).
  • Low power consumption : Being efficient in its own power draw (6.2 W at 12V), it adds minimal overhead to the system.

Use Cases

  • Off-grid solar systems: For rural homes, lodges or community installations where mains grid is absent or unreliable. The Ekrano GX enables monitoring of PV production, battery charge/discharge, generator start/stop if installed, and remote alerts in case of battery under‐voltage or system faults.
  • Grid-hybrid or backup power systems: In commercial facilities, clinics or small businesses in Tanzania facing frequent power outages, the Ekrano GX can manage when backup inverters/chargers switch in, monitor mains input, and log system performance for preventive maintenance.
  • Commercial / industrial installations: Solar + battery installations that form part of micro-grid systems in hotels, resorts, telecom towers or mining sites can benefit from the device’s ability to integrate many inputs, support tank / temperature sensors (for BMS or coolant tanks), and display all system data in one dashboard.
  • Marine / mobile applications: Though less common in land‐locked Tanzania, for any boat or mobile installation (eg. mobile clinics, field vehicles) the rugged build and interface with NMEA or MFDs is a plus.
  • Remote asset monitoring / service provider model: For companies installing solar systems in remote regions of Tanzania, the remote monitoring capability means services teams can proactively check system health, respond to alerts, reduce travel/time-onsite, and offer better reliability.

Value Propositions

  • Enhanced system visibility & reliability: In a market where power supply is often unreliable and solar/battery systems are rapidly adopted, the Ekrano GX offers real-time visibility and control — reducing downtime, preventing battery or generator misuse, and improving performance.
  • Scalability & future-proofing: Its many connection ports and flexibility mean that whether a system is a small residential setup or a large commercial installation, the Ekrano GX can scale. It also supports new integrations (third-party sensors etc) so the investment is forward-looking.
  • Cost savings & operational efficiency: By enabling better monitoring and system control (for example optimizing battery usage, reducing generator runtime, tracking solar yield), customers save on fuel, maintenance, and component lifespan.
  • Remote management with reduced manpower: Especially for remote or hard-to-reach sites in Tanzania (rural lodges, telecom towers), the remote console and VRM portal enable remote diagnostics, reducing the need for onsite engineer visits and lowering service costs.
  • Premium brand and support network: Victron is a recognised global brand in power electronics. For end-users and installers in Tanzania, this means confidence in quality, warranty and global support lines.

Local Market Positioning in Tanzania

  • Premium / professional tier: The Ekrano GX is not an entry-level device. Its capabilities and cost place it in the premium segment – ideal for high-end residential, commercial installations, mini-grids, or systems where detailed monitoring & control is required.
  • Competitive advantage for installers: Installers in Tanzania can position systems with Ekrano GX as “smart, monitored, future-ready” solutions. This appeals to customers who want reliability, remote monitoring (e.g., farm-owners, guesthouses, telecom base-stations) and who may pay a premium for quality and peace of mind.
  • Fit for solar + storage growth: Tanzania’s solar market is expanding (residential rooftop, commercial solar farms, household battery systems). The Ekrano GX supports systems with battery and renewables, which aligns with market trends.
  • Distinction versus basic solutions: Many smaller solar/battery installations may use simple charge controllers and basic monitoring. The Ekrano GX elevates the system — making it appealing where system size, complexity or value demand better control.
  • Support & import considerations: Given its premium nature, ensure local importers/distributors stock it or can support it. Warranty, firmware updates, integration services must be addressed when positioning locally.
  • Education and value-communication: In Tanzania (and similar markets) customers may not automatically value remote monitoring or advanced automations. Therefore, installers and marketers should explain how features translate into cost savings, reliability, convenience (e.g., downtime avoidance, remote alerts, less generator runtime).
